Our history

Founding of the ORGREB Institute for Power Plants

Today’s Dornier Power and Heat was founded back then as ORGREB in Vetschau, Brandenburg, and was the ‘Institute for Power Plants’ in East Germany for many years.

1962

Founding as Planning Consulting division within Dornier GmbH

Having previously concentrated on complex aerospace engineering tasks and the related project management, a separate “Planning Consulting” division was established within Dornier GmbH in 1962. Dornier Planning Consulting (now Dornier Consulting International GmbH) provided support for clients in planning and executing investments and organisational projects.

Founding of VEAG

With the founding of VEAG Vereinigte Energiewerke AG in 1990, the ORGREB Institute (now Dornier Power and Heat GmbH) became part of VEAG as IfK Ingenieurunternehmen für Kraftwerks-, Energie- und Umwelttechnik (engineering company for power plant, energy and environmental technology).

Spin-off

The Planning Consulting division of Dornier GmbH was spun off as an independent company in 1995, initially trading as Dornier SystemConsult (now Dornier Consulting International GmbH). The entrepreneurial and progressive thinking of the company’s founder, Dornier himself, now defined the corporate culture.

Renaming

In 1998, IfK GmbH was renamed VEAG PowerConsult (now Dornier Power and Heat GmbH), with the business purpose of marketing VEAG’s expertise from its core business around the world.

EADS

Dornier SystemConsult was integrated into The EADS Group in the year 2000 and renamed Dornier Consulting two years later. New offices were opened in Abu Dhabi, Russia, Poland and South Africa.

Acquisition by Vattenfall

The Swedish energy group Vattenfall acquired VEAG in 2002, integrating VPC (now Dornier Power and Heat) as its own engineering company.

Founding of Suntrace GmbH

Founding of Suntrace (now Dornier Suntrace GmbH) in Hamburg for the development, construction, operation and sale of photovoltaic systems.

2009

Acquisition of VPC GmbH

VPC (now Dornier Power and Heat GmbH) was acquired by palero Group in 2014, making it independent of both supplier and operator interests and committed solely to the needs of its customers.

2014

Founding of Conwico GmbH

Conwico GmbH (now Dornier Construction and Service GmbH) was founded in Vetschau, Brandenburg in 2017. Conwico now offers the construction of wind and solar power plants as well as the operation of thermal power plants.

2017

Acquisition of Dornier Consulting International GmbH

Dornier Consulting International GmbH, with its focus on the fields of aviation, mobility, real estate and water, was acquired by palero Group in 2018.

2018

Acquisition of Suntrace GmbH

In 2019, palero Group acquired 50 percent of Suntrace (now Dornier Suntrace GmbH) to complement the group’s activities in the field of renewable energies, and solar energy in particular.

Founding of VPC Nukleare Dienstleistungen GmbH

The Nuclear Services business line was spun off from VPC GmbH (now Dornier Power and Heat GmbH) in 2020 to form an independent company, VPC Nukleare Dienstleistungen GmbH (now Hinneburg GmbH).

2020

All companies join forces as Dornier Group

All of these companies were transferred to Dornier Group in 2020. A comprehensive infrastructure service provider was created that can handle tasks in the areas of energy, mobility and water.

Acquisition of IBS Technik GmbH

IBS Technik, specialising in environmental issues in the energy sector, was acquired in 2021 and merged with Conwico into Dornier Construction and Service GmbH (DCS).

IBS operates biomass and substitute fuel plants in Germany.

2021

Dornier Group one-brand strategy

Dornier Group one-brand strategy

In 2022, all legal entities were integrated into Dornier Group as business units, all operating under the Dornier Group umbrella brand.

As part of this process, the legal entities were renamed:

  • Suntrace GmbH became Dornier Suntrace GmbH
  • VPC Nukleare Dienstleistungen GmbH became Dornier Nuclear Services GmbH
  • VPC GmbH became Dornier Power and Heat GmbH

2022

Acquisition of Hinneburg GmbH

2024 saw the acquisition of Hinneburg GmbH, merging with Dornier Nuclear Services GmbH into Dornier Hinneburg GmbH. Hinneburg is active in radiation protection and shielding.

2024

Sale of Dornier Hinneburg GmbH

Dornier Hinneburg GmbH, with its activities in radiation protection and the dismantling of nuclear facilities, was sold to Bureau Veritas.

2025

Acquisition of Lahmeyer International GmbH

2025 also saw the acquisition of Lahmeyer International GmbH. Lahmeyer offers engineering services in the fields of hydro power engineering, wind, transmission and distribution, and gas-to-X solutions.

Integration of Lahmeyer International into Dornier Group

Lahmeyer International GmbH was integrated as a Dornier Group brand in 2026. The Dornier Group now offers engineering services and consulting in the fields of hydro, power and heat, renewables and mobility worldwide.
