Dr. Georg Bacmeister is one of Germany’s most experienced experts in the field of disposal and clearance of radioactive waste from nuclear facilities. He has been significantly involved in decommissioning projects for over two decades and is considered a pioneer in the development of clearance processes and innovative documentation systems.
After studying physics in Freiburg and Kiel and completing his doctorate at the Christian-Albrechts University in Kiel, he supplemented his scientific profile with an additional degree in economics at the FernUniversität in Hagen. This interdisciplinary training still forms the basis for his holistic understanding of complex dismantling projects.
In the course of his career, Dr. Bacmeister has worked on the dismantling of the Stade, Brunsbüttel and Würgassen nuclear power plants, among others. In Brunsbüttel, he set up the waste management department from 2016 and, as head of department and radiation protection officer (SSB), was responsible for central project sections such as the clearance of buildings and floor areas, the planning and commissioning of residual material processing centers and the development of the ReVS residual material tracking system.
He was project manager for numerous key projects – including the release of scrap metal using laser technology, the design of the storage facility for low and intermediate-level waste (LasmA) and the introduction of radiological characterization processes at various sites in Germany and Sweden. His expertise is particularly in demand when it comes to approval processes in accordance with the Radiation Protection Ordinance, the conformity testing of technical documents or the integration of new technologies into existing operational processes.
Since August 2024, Dr. Bacmeister has been Regional Manager Northern Germany at Dornier Hinneburg GmbH, where he is responsible for the strategic development of the dismantling and disposal portfolio. Previously, he worked independently as a consulting engineer and supported companies in the planning and implementation of nuclear waste disposal projects.
Dr. Bacmeister stands for technical depth, a methodical approach and a consistently practice-oriented implementation of complex requirements in the dismantling of nuclear facilities – a true expert with vision.
