Wastewater treatment is becoming an increasingly important component of sustainable environmental protection as wastewater treatment is not yet or only insufficiently implemented in many parts of the world.

Only about 20 per cent of wastewater produced worldwide is treated.
It goes without saying that a drastic reduction in worldwide water pollution is required.

Satisfactory disposal of wastewater, whether by surface, subsurface methods or dilution, is dependent on its treatment prior to disposal. Adequate treatment is necessary to prevent contamination of receiving waters. Additionally in times of changing climate an efficient stormwater management is essential.
