Overview
As part of the European traffic axis “France – Germany – Austria – Southeast Europe”, the A8 freeway between Karlsruhe and Munich is the major east-west road link in southern Germany. The expansion between Hohenstadtand Ulm-West will adapt a further section in Baden-Württemberg to meet the increased demands. The four-lane section, approximately 23 km in length and equipped with an emergency stopping lane, will be widened to six lanes with emergency lanes on both sides in four construction phases. 26 new crossing structures (bridges, underpasses and culverts) as well as several rainwater retention basins, and supporting and protective wall elements, are to be builtat the same time.
