The Ministry of Transport in KSA embarked on developing Intelligent Transport Systems (ITS) on its road network to better address travel and traffic management as well as emergency management on the highway network.

The Ministry of Transport has contracted Dornier to design the ITS system ready for implementation for Dammam Metropolitan Area, Makkah – Madinah and Makkah Jeddah Highways.  This highway traffic management system (HTMS) shall improve road safety and traffic efficiency and comprises of traffic detection, CCTV, incident detection and confirmation, dynamic speed management, heavy goods vehicle routing, traffic condition information.
