The new museum for aviation and aerospace was built next to the airport at the historic site and birthplace of the Dornier company in Friedrichshafen/Lake Constance. The project was initiated by the Dornier StiftungfürLuft- und Raumfahrt(aerospace trust) founded by Silvius Dornier. The more than 5,000 m² museum building, integrated into an approximately 25,000 m² landscape and museum park, was built on the open space at Friedrichshafen Airport between the terminal building and the tower. 100 years of aerospace technology, developments and research work carried out by Dornier are vividly conveyed on the basis of historical aircraft. The exhibition area, the aircraft and the museum are housed together under one characteristic roof.
