Vattenfall Europe Generation AG subjected the pumped storage power plant (originally commissioned in the yers 1979 – 1981) to comprehensive reconditioning. The 6 pumped storage units, each with a capacity of 175 MW in turbine operation and 190 MW in pumping operation, were subjected to a comprehensive overhaul from 2006 to 2009. The large mechanical units such as ball gate valves, suction tube flaps and inlet gates were refurbished and replaced. In addition, the complete I&C system and electrical protection equipment was replaced and adapted to the state of the art. Within the overall scope of this project, VPC was commissioned to provide engineering services for the following lots: Upgrading of the I&C system, upgrading of electrical protection equipment, recommissioning, safety and health coordination.
