PTA was initially mandated to regulate public transport services in both urban and inter-urban areas. This mandate was extended to also cover rail, maritime, and freight transport systems. At the same time, the transport sector in KSA is undergoing a massive infrastructure development and a deep structural reform in line with the 2030 Country´s vision, the 2030 National Transport Strategy (NTS), the 2020 NationalTransformationProgram (NTP) and other sectoral strategies with direct implications on transport demand and services.

Within this context, PTA has contracted DCI to update its administrative and organizational structure in ways that cover both its original and extended functions while aligning its objectives with sectoral and national strategies and long term plans and economic policies.
