In the Chemnitz Combined Heat and Power Plant, two lignite fired boilers are operated to generate superheated steam for district heating and for generation of electrical energy. Downstream of the boiler, the flue gases produced arerouted through the air preheater, electrostatic precipitator, induced draft fan, flue gas desulfurization (FGD) plant, and on to the chimney. VPC was commissioned by the operator einsenergiein Sachsen GmbH & Co KG to determine the total mercury concentration and the species (Hg0and Hg2+) in the flue gas upstream of the FGD plant of Unit B within the scope of operational studies. The reference measurement method according to DIN EN 13211 with isokinetic partial flow sampling was used for the determination of the total Hg content.
