The ARENA2036 project – Active Research Environment for the Next Generation of Automobiles – followed on from an initiative developed by the University of Stuttgart and the sponsoring organization ARENA2036. Under the auspices of the state office for property and construction in Baden-Württemberg (VB-BW) as building owner – represented by the university building authority for Stuttgart and Hohenheim- the state of Baden-Württemberg decided to build a new, flexible research building on the University of Stuttgart-Vaihingencampus to develop and research new manufacturing and production methods for the automotive sector. 2036 refers to the year 2036, which will commemorate 150 years of the existence of the automobile.
