Frankfurt Airport is one of the ten largest aviation hubs in the world and in continental Europe. Currently it serves 420.000 flights annually.

To facilitate future traffic increases up to a passenger volume of 80 million p.a. the infrastructure needs to be expanded. The projected expansion program includes a new runway and a new terminal. The additional runway shall increase flight capacity up to 660.000 per year. The new terminal complex will be connected to the existing terminal complex by means of an integrated automated people mover­ system.
