Initiated by Stadtwerke Bremen, the construction of a new, flexible combined cycle gas turbine (CCGT) power plant at the Arcelor Mittal steelworks site in Bremen was studied and prepared by VPC. The project and operating company Gemeinschaftskraftwerk Bremen GmbH & Co. KG finally commissioned a consortium consisting of General Electric (USA) and Cobra (Spain) with the turnkey construction of the CCGT power plant. In addition, a long-term service agreement (LTSA) was concluded with GE for the maintenance of the powertrain. The natural gas-fired plant has a maximum capacity of 445 MW, uses a heat recovery steam generator made of high-temperature steel for steam temperatures as high as 600°C, achieves an electrical efficiency of 58.3% and supplies electricity to the Deutsche Bahnrailway company and to the 110 kV public grid.
