The project comprised two subprojects: (i) expansion of the existing Lufthansa terminal with aircraft stands suitable for A380 aircraft, and (ii) partial dismantling of the existing terminal and construction of a new check-in hall and arrival area including baggage handling system. All work had to be carried out during ongoing airport operations. Consequently, the overall project included the following work packages: apron, dismantling, infrastructure, land-side preparatory work, passenger boarding bridges, and baggage handling systems. The construction project included new construction of the pier and new construction of the junction building connecting the existing section of Terminal 1 with the new pier. The new junction building enabled the baggage claim area to be enlarged. The new pier is the main facility for Lufthansa A380 handling at Terminal 1.
