Suntrace supporting Kinross Gold Corporation as Owner’s Engineers for the Tasiast Solar Power Generation Project

Canada-based Kinross Gold Corporation, one of the global top 10 gold producers, awarded Suntrace GmbH as Technical Advisor and Owner’s Engineer for their Solar Power Generation Project at their Tasiast Gold Mine in Mauretania.

Luca Schomaker, Project Manager Technical Advisory at Suntrace, states: „Suntrace is appreciating to support Kinross in this project, developing the technical solution for a solar & battery hybrid project at the off-grid mine, which will significantly reduce the fossil fuel consumption. Significant amount of fuel and CO2 can be saved every year, creating an environmental benefit while reducing the cost of power generation for the mining operations. Integrating solar PV and batteries with an existing HFO fired generation system is challenging and we are proud that Kinross trusts in our expertise.”

Did you know?
Especially on sites with arid and bare ground, soiling assessment is a worthwhile and low-cost amendment to well-equipped solar resource measurement stations. In general, soiling losses can exceed 20% and cleaning efforts significantly affect OPEX. Assessment results from our HelioScale meteo stations offer valuable support when it comes to determining most economic cleaning rates, to sort out the best suitable location and design for PV parks, as well as to evaluate cost mitigation measures in general.
