Higher network capacity with minimal investment costs Solution #1: Replacing the overhead lines

To prepare the existing network for future requirements, it was first examined in various scenarios. This revealed two challenges: The cables and overhead lines are overloaded in some places and at some transformer stations voltage limits are not met.

There are several options to counteract this. One is to replace the overloaded lines. While this option would also counteract the identified voltage problems, it would overall be a very expensive and technically complex solution. After all, even if half of all overhead lines were replaced, that would still be too little to completely solve the voltage problems. In addition, there is a tight schedule, so that another solution must be found – more on this tomorrow.
