What does nuclear dismantling look like in practice?

To answer this question, students from the Technical University of Dresden visited the Grafenrheinfeld nuclear power plant in June. The excursion took place as part of the course “Dismantling nuclear facilities” and was led by their lecturer Dr. Anton Anthofer (head of our Nuclear Services business unit). In addition to learning about the history of the power plant, the students also gained on-site impressions of the dismantling measures currently underway and those already carried out.

The group spent the second day of the excursion at the Silbitz Guss plant. There, the students were not only introduced to casting and melting technology, but also to cobalt and iridium sources for non-destructive, radiographic material testing.

We thank PreussenElektra and the Silbitz Group for the exciting insights!
